Description

The current behavior of the measure tool, QGIS 2.2, is to draw a thin red line between points selected by the user. This marker line disappears when another tool is selected from the menu. If the user wanted to place a new point or begin a line from the endpoint of the marker line the opportunity to do so is lost. This behavior is consistent with both the angle and distance measure tools.

Also, the marker line is very thin and is difficult to see when used with lightly colored raster overlays.

Desired behavior is to have the marker line persist until cleared from the screen by the user. The marker line should be made wider to be more visible when using a raster overlay.

I hope I have not overlooked any obvious functionality already present in QGIS that performs in this manner.

  • Affected QGIS version changed from 2.2.0 to master
  • Target version set to Future Release - Nice to have
  • Category set to Map Canvas
  • Subject changed from Measure Tool Persistance and Visibility. to make measure tools lines more visible and persistent until the user choose to remove them

I agree at least on the first part, the lines are barely visible when there are styled/raster layer in the canvas.
