Description
There is no possibility to set Bold or Italic text without style selection.
buttons are desactivated
This possibility is offered (and work) in composer for on text object using HTML option <i>{text}</i> and <b>{text}</b>

Not sure i fully understand but is this related to or duplicate of #19370?

Yes this is related. My notice is similar. Some fonts don't have directly italic or/and bold style usable in QGIS label but HTML ball we work fine. Button bold and italic are disabled and I don't understand why...
