Description
Currently when adding a WMS layer to a map no vendor parameters are passed along to the WMS server, however they are preserved in the url associated with the faulty QGIS layer. My WMS Mapserver needs additional parameters in order to define a layer, so when they are not passed to it both Mapserver and QGIS register an error. The parameters passed to the WMS server seem to be only those required by a standard WMS request. If the url with additional parameters is replicated in a browser or in Openlayers then it works fine.

Did you check "Ignore GetMap/GetTile URI reported in capabilities"? Otherwise QGIS used the URIs from GetCapabilities to form the requests.

That did the trick. It's not obvious to check that box. Maybe another version beyond 2.6.1 could have a better description of that capability. Thank you very much.
