In the status quo, annotations can be set to have no fixed map position. Then they are always displayed in the same location, regardless of the zooming and panning.
However, they will then always be positioned relative to the top-left corner of the map canvas.
Possible applications would be displaying location-independent information about the map on the canvas, e. g. projection, general location, data source etc.
