should not be better to add this feature to "ftools" (the vector menu) and then expose this in Sextante?

Maybe there's already such a tool in the open source world? If yes it could be added to Sextante.

For what I understand from a search it seems that other software packages do union multiple vectors in a "cascade": union the first two with the third, the result with the fourth and so on. I would be very handy indeed, but still not sure if it would make more sense to add this feature directly in ftools or in sextante. I vote for the first option and so to move this ticket to the qgis desktop tracker, but obviously Victor has the last word.

If there's no "Union tool" that's ready to use and to be ported to Sextante, then yes this ticket should be moved to ftools.

  • Subject changed from "Union" tool that allows more than 2 input files to "Union/Intersect" tools that allows more than 2 input files

Attached a screenshot that shows how the Arc* GUI is made (to allow select more than 2 input files). I guess that under the hood the files are processed in a loop two by two where the result is unioned/intersected with the following input file.

The "ftools" category is being removed from the tracker, changing the category of this ticket to "Processing/QGIS" to not leave the category orphaned.
