Bug report #16233 (Closed): regression: deleting a saved wms/wmts server crashes QGIS

I'm pretty sure this is a regression from the QgsSettings PR (#e1ede700a897c899be8aabf20abe7f953209cb10). When the user tries to delete a saved wms/wmts server via its UI's [ remove ] button, QGIS crashes. This is the gdb's where output:

Start a Geoserver endpoint (tested with 2.7.4 and 2.9), load a couple of layers, one behind authentication and the other not.

Enable WFS.

Create the connection in QGIS >= 2.16 and enter the credentials.

Connect to the endpoint, as expected both layers are listed.

Try load the layer not protected > ok
Try load the layer protected > "
Layer geonode:XXX: Download of features for layer geonode:XXX failed or partially failed: Server generated an exception in GetFeature response: Feature type geonode:XXX unknown. You may attempt reloading the layer with F5"

This does not happen on LTR.

Old description:

Scenario: a Geonode/Geoserver instance with a few vector layers behind authentication via Geonode (I guess that could be basic http authentication).

In QGIS 2.16.* loading such layers results in:

Layer geonode:XXX: Download of features for layer geonode:XXX failed or partially failed: Server generated an exception in GetFeature response: Feature type geonode:XXX unknown. You may attempt reloading the layer with F5

on QGIS 2.14 and previous no issues.

I have set-up a new database connection in QGIS that uses service connection. I can connect successfully but when I try to connect to the same database it fails to connect. The error seems to be centred on DB manager not reading the service files correctly. It reads the user-name as database name and this causes it not to connect

Opening a 2.12 project with current master
If a layer has a custom init function using an external python file
Master loses this config and sets the custom init function as "provide in this dialog" without any code leading to an error.

This causes a python error when opening the form.

I can't provide a minimal example as I don't have a 2.12 installed or built anymore.
I have encountered this over 2 projects file, with the same behavior twice.

Problem Description:
Converting offline twice within the same running project instance causes unusable offline state.

Problem Result:
After which the "Convert to Offline Project" is grayed out. The project will no longer synchronize and the project is stuck in an Offline State.

If the project is saved, upon opening the same scenario applies.

The only fix to this is to open the project file in a text editor and delete the offline information and save the file. This is impossible for most of our users.

Steps to reproduce:
Open Qgis
Add PostGIS vector layer
Database > Offline Editing > Convert to Offline Project
Offline data: C:/OSGEO4W/bin/offline.sqlite
Select PostGIS vector layer
Database > Offline Editing > Syncronize
Database > Offline Editing > Convert to Offline Project
Offline data: C:/OSGEO4W/bin/offline.sqlite (Same dataset)
