I also experience this. Very repeatable, and occurs when using either 'download' feature direct from Qgis, or exporting from openstreetmap website and using loading-from-file feature of this plugin.
QGIS Application - Feature request #2996: OSM causing crashhttps://issues.qgis.org/issues/2996?journal_id=230352010-09-22T18:10:37ZWilliam Kyngesburyekyngchaos@kyngchaos.com

It appears that the above is using the standalone Qgis. I verified that it also happens with the full Qgis on OS X 10.6. Both use the system Python 2.6. It also happens with Qgis trunk.

But, it works fine on OS X 10.5, which uses the system Python 2.5.
QGIS Application - Feature request #2996: OSM causing crashhttps://issues.qgis.org/issues/2996?journal_id=230362010-11-30T15:45:22ZWilliam Kyngesburyekyngchaos@kyngchaos.com

Still crashes in Qgis 1.6, OSX 10.6 (python 2.6), OK OSX 10.5 (python 2.5). Bumping to the next version...
QGIS Application - Feature request #2996: OSM causing crashhttps://issues.qgis.org/issues/2996?journal_id=230372011-02-21T03:34:27ZMartin Dobiaswonder.sk@gmail.com

There is a hack that causes this crash on OSX. I do not have access to a Mac, so I will just suggest a fix and hope that someone tries it out and confirms if it works:

[[QgsVectorLayer]]* layer = ( [[QgsVectorLayer]]* ) x.value( 0 ).toUInt();
