As a user when searching and browsing for a plugin in QGIS extension manager or on the website https://plugins.qgis.org/ , users should be informed before hand about the requirements, dependencies and restrictions of a plugin.

There is currently a newly added text in the "Recommendation" chapter on https://plugins.qgis.org/publish/ to mention requirements, dependencies and restrictions in the About/Description field, if the plugin is running only on selected platforms, requires software to be installed separately or requires some user account.

My suggestion is to add an optional field - perhaps called "requirements" - in metadata.txt, to be filled in by the plugin maintainer. The field entry would be mandatory if there exist such requirements.

Some dependencies and restrictions could even be potentially validated automatically.
QGIS Application - Feature request #21399 (Open): "There is a new QGIS version available. Visit.....https://issues.qgis.org/issues/213992019-02-26T18:13:27Zjb Peterjbpeter@outlook.com

For the past months, the yellow warning message "There is a new QDIS version available. Visit...." has almost always been visible on the startup page even so I am using the latest installation package available for mac OS. This is due to the fact that the latest installation package for mac does not match the current version of QGIS.

For most users, I think it would be more usefull to be informed when a new installation package is available for a specific OS. People who have the skills to compile QGIS from source most likely don't need a message to inform them that a new version is available.
QGIS Application - Bug report #21130 (Open): "Couldn't load SIP module." with Madeirahttps://issues.qgis.org/issues/211302019-01-30T11:04:38ZBoris D.dessimondboris@gmail.com

I got this problem with both 64 and 32 bits version.
Tried to reinstall SIP.
Tried to install several python packages.
I also use Anaconda.
I searched online and found several similar error, didn't managed to fixed it.

I installed QGIS 3.0.1 and it started without any error. Since I spent already something like 4H trying to get QGIS work, I'll just keep working with version 3.0.1 but I wanted to repport the error?

First Error window :

It would be good if the repository had a feature of looking for an index.html file in the plugin zip file and providing a link to this if it exists. See

http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Writing_Python_Plugins#Documentation

Two things that make this a bit difficult are
1) Security - there is not control on the contents of the HTML file
2) References - eg references to images within the index.html file.

Maybe there is a better way of meeting the underlying requirement, which is to be able to provide more comprehensive information about the plugin without installing it.
QGIS Plugin Site - Feature request #23 (Open): Add an option "Create a bugtracker"https://issues.qgis.org/issues/232011-03-08T22:46:40ZPaolo Cavallinicavallini@faunalia.it

Create "For in the field" mode and "For in the office" mode by
defining sets of keyboard shortcuts and other interactive
qgis behavior. The user could create his/her own modes by
modifying these sets.

"For in the field" mode should make minimal use of the mouse.
QGIS Application - Feature request #1555 (Open): A more efficient SQL query for uniquenesshttps://issues.qgis.org/issues/15552009-02-19T13:03:06Zgjm -gjm@foo.bar

The postgres provider, at times, runs a query on a table to see if a particular column contains unique values. This is done as part of choosing a suitable column to use as an index for that table. The SQL that does this uniqueness check is in the uniqueData() function in the qgspostgresprovider.cpp file. The SQL is:

select count(distinct %1)=count(%1) from %2.%3

where %1 is the column in question, %2 the schema name and %3 the table name.

This counts the number of rows in that row almost twice. A potentially more efficient way to achieve the same outcome is with an SQL like this:

select count() from (select %1 from %2.%3 group by %1 having count() > 1 limit 1) as foo;

This would return 0 or 1, depending if there were unique (or not) data in row %1.

This needs a little bit of testing first to check that it does reduce the query time (I don't have the time at the moment).
